Restoring Hope, Empowering Futures
In a world where many children face abandonment, abuse, and societal neglect, the Children's Correctional Centre for Girls at Idi Araba serves as a beacon of hope. On Nigeria’s Independence Day 2024, WEBS Lagos Chapter reached out to the young girls at this facility with love, prayers, gifts, and encouragement.
This centre, which houses girls sent by the court for rehabilitation, equips them with vocational and life skills such as tailoring, hairdressing, furniture making, and more. The visit was an opportunity to bring light and love to a marginalized group of young girls who are being reformed for a better tomorrow.
Team members present were Sis Ufuoma Okorie (Lagos Coordinator), Sis Uju Owoeye, Sis Christine, Sis Joy Mike, and Sis Stella Oforshie
Upon arrival, the team was warmly received by Mrs. Tobi, who gave a comprehensive tour of the facility. She shared powerful transformation stories—such as a 5-year-old girl abandoned on Lagos-Badagry Express Road who is now 18 and skilled in sewing and furniture making.
WEBS Sisters visited the vocational departments (fashion, beauty, and ICT), praised the work done by the girls, and pledged further support. Sis Ufuoma committed to branding their handmade products; Sis Uju and Sis Ufuoma also volunteered to teach ICT-related courses once computers arrive.
The outreach left an indelible mark on everyone involved. The girls were filled with joy and hope, and the management expressed deep appreciation. The atmosphere was charged with God's presence as praise, worship, and heartfelt prayers were lifted.
